What – in the name of high heaven – would possess four grown women to start a blog? Besides the obvious technological hurdles it posed, why would we think anyone would want to read it? When would we find the time to contribute? And what, in God’s name, would our children think!

All valid points.
I guess, for us, the idea came because someone suggested it. A friend of mine (shout out to Patty Fuchs-Rech!) said she looked forward to our Thursday Night Instagram posts and loved seeing what we were up to. She suggested I start a blog. I laughed, but if I was honest with myself, the thought lingered. I’ve always journaled and a blog – in my mind – is just an extension of that.
But why start one?
2021
Again, sticking with honesty here, I think I like the idea of memorializing my friendship with these three amazing women. Sure, our Thursday Nights and weekend trips look like a lot of fun – and they are – they certainly are, but the genesis of our girls’ nights started because these wonderful friends of mine rallied around me during a particularly difficult time in my life.
Today.
So that’s how it all began. And that’s how it continues to go. Every Thursday night we go out or stay in at one of our homes. Most times we’re all there, sometimes not. But we’ve been doing it now for four years and I can’t imagine stopping now. Somewhere along the line we decided to start a little travel fund which is used for weekend getaways. A spreadsheet and Venmo account later and bam! We’ve got four trips under our belt.
So, what is it I hope to share?
Our travels? Our Thursday Nights? What reaching for the crazy looks like when you’re over 50? Yes. Yes. And Yes. But mostly I see this blog as a testimony to women and friendship. How sometimes, there are certain things we are forced to live without, but friendship shouldn’t be one of them.
Some people say when one door closes, another opens. Maybe this blog is just another open door. Maybe not. But it sure is cheaper than therapy. ❤️
