I bet you’d all love a night out. I bet you all deserve a night out! A night out locally with dinner, drinks AND a little night moves. Alright, alright, get your minds out of the gutter. I was talking about dinner and dancing! The combination makes for a perfect evening. Don’t get me wrong, I love going out just for dinner. There isn’t a plate of pasta I’d refuse. (Let me remind you that you are talking to four ladies that ordered poutine at Northside Grille by calling it poutine salad. And the waitress didn’t even bat an eye). But to have a great meal and throw in a little music and a little dancing . . . well, that makes for an awesome night.
All My Loving
My family is very close. We always have been. We go out often and support each other frequently. Whether it is for each other, our significant others, or our children, we are often together. One of our favorite things to do is to go out to dinner and enjoy the singing of my sister Sally’s boyfriend Joe McDonald. Joe’s manger calls him a human jukebox – and he plays keyboards, guitar, and sings at local restaurants. There is nothing like sitting at a table after enjoying a meal and listening to Joe play all the songs that are familiar not only to our generation, but to every generation. It is inevitable that we end out on our feet and on the dance floor.
Old Time Rock & Roll
Sally and Joe actually met 2 ½ years ago when he was playing at The Coach Stop in Londonderry NH. It is a venue he performs at frequently. The rest, as they say, is history. Joe is 72 and has been doing this for 50 years. Sally is his number one fan, and we are lucky to enjoy front row seats to their love story and his playing.
While he entertains, when talking to his audience, he often tells little stories. He refers to Sally often. He does this so much that we’ve turned it into a little drinking game. (I know what you’re thinking: of course you have). Every time he says her name, we drink. Which probably explains why we are usually the first to hit the dance floor. 😜. But it’s never long before others soon follow. It’s just that type of music. You can’t help but let your feet take over and lead you.
Last Saturday we found ourselves in Nashua at Fody’s Great American Tavern. This time, Darlene, Maureen and her husband Todd, tagged along. If you haven’t been, Fody’s is a cute little pub/restaurant in the center of Nashua. It’s exterior has a ivy, brick-covered façade, while it’s interior has a candlelit glow. Wonderful atmosphere – even better night!
Dancing in the Moonlight
Which brings me to another reason why we love being Joe’s band of groupies: we often find ourselves at restaurants that are new to us. Fody’s being an example of one. The food was American fare pub-grub, and was totally yummy. As were the drinks. A few Saturdays before, we were in Derry at Sabatino’s North – an AWESOME Italian food restaurant. That night, we danced the entire night away – to the point that I closed my exercise ring on my apple watch. 😳 Which, quite frankly, I was thankful for because if you had seen what I had eaten . . .
I Want to Hold Your Hand
So, one of these nights treat yourself to dinner and dancing. I feel as though our generation has lost those moments where a night out was a night to connect. We go to dinner and glance as much at our phones as we do our partners. For one night, put the phone down, enjoy your meal and connect. Grab your partner’s hand and head to the dance floor. So maybe your moves aren’t like they were when you were 20. Or you might get winded a little more quickly. Who cares! You’ll be singing. Dancing. Twisting and shouting. And as you’re twistin’ the night away, you’ll feel – even if briefly – like you were 20.
26?
Ok . . . then at least 29!
Just avoid all mirrors or the spell will be broken. 🥴
Cheers!
