Tiffany Hill Treehouse, Newbury New Hampshire.
I’m not sure how I stumbled upon this New Hampshire treehouse, but as our resident travel coordinator, I’m always looking for someplace fun and unique. I think someone at work told me about a treehouse in Maine (Seguin) and I thought: “OMG! That looks super awesome! Does it have room service?” Ok – so no room service, but everything else looked amazing. I tried to look at available dates, but it was Covid, and it didn’t seem to be accepting reservations. Fast-forward and a couple of google searches later and, VOILA! We found not only a gorgeous treehouse, but one in our back yard! A date was planned for a weekend in April, and we crossed-off
the days with excitement.
April came and despite a late season snowstorm Sarah’s pickup was packed up and off everyone went to Newbury New Hampshire. Everyone but me, that is. I had to drive up separately – long, long loooooong story – but I eventually made it just in time for cocktails. Unpacking was a breeze; I say this because I wasn’t around for a bit of it. Apparently, the snow made it too slick to pull close to the treehouse. Thankfully, wagons are provided so everything could easily be brought into the house. Or so I was told. Like I said, I breezed in with everything unpacked and wondered why my martini glass wasn’t chilled. Still, I was thankful they played pack-mule.
A New Hampshire Treehouse
The house – because it was truly a small house set on trees – was beautiful. The thoughtful details were amazing. The tile floor was heated, the décor was stunning, and there wasn’t anything we needed that wasn’t there. It even had a washer-dryer! We have a little routine when we do these getaways and I love it. The first day is always spent getting familiar – oohing and aahing over everything. Friday nights we cook in and relax over dessert martini’s. The menu is planned the week before and Sarah and Maureen grab the Venmo card and do all the shopping for the trip (If you haven’t read our post about how we save for our little excursions – and why the Venmo card – you should!)
So Friday we utilized the quaint little kitchen and made filet mignons with a demi-glace, red bliss mashed potatoes and green beans. After dinner we sat near the fire stove in our flannel pajamas and drank chocolate espresso martinis watching the snow continue to fall outside. It was perfection.
Day 2
Saturday we woke early, made a yummy breakfast and then headed outside for a hike. I use the term “hike” loosely since we maybe trekked 400 yards – someone who shall remain nameless (ok . . . it was me) forgot her boots 😬. After such a grueling hike, we headed in and played games before getting ready for dinner at a local restaurant. Going out to dinner is also part of our routine – it gives us an excuse to dress up. This time I would have preferred to stay at the treehouse since the food was only “meh” at the restaurant. Once back at the treehouse, we decided to watch a scary movie . . .
I know exactly what you’re thinking – brilliant decision! So smart! Of course you’d watch a scary movie. In the middle of the woods. Where it’s completely isolated. And dark. Without a soul around.
If that doesn’t scream come kill me now, nothing does. It’s a horror movie waiting to happen. Actually, I think it did happen. In a movie, that is. That being said, if there was only one survivor (because there always is just one), my money would be on Maureen. She’s plucky like that. Thankfully, we all survived and woke to make omelets in the morning with mimosa.
We really hated to leave our little house in the trees, but look forward to next year. We’re definitely going back. If you’re looking for a girl’s weekend or couples retreat, we highly recommend it.
Scary movie optional. 😉
